Once that happened a lot lot more pcs starter to arrive in post replacing sgi and sun workstations and even hardware solutions like paintbox with things like colourgraphics paint and dp max.Īpple bought shake as they saw all of vfx rapidly going windows with maya and soft image moving onto windows boxes. That led to IT departments in post houses where media composer mac didn’t require them.
Without that fumble no windows media composer. If we want to talk Apple abandonment the classic is making a new Mac without enough slots to run avid. At least Resolve seems to marry the best of FCP and those legacy apps. I think DaVinci Resolve is the best representative of that.
But I'm glad the pros are pushing Apple to either "shit or get off the pot." What I do like about FCP is that it pushes other NLEs to make changes. I guess it's a little foolish to build your business on Apple professional apps.

Now, there are enough pro apps not from Apple, and they don't want to dissuade other developers. It feels as if Apple began its professional apps back in the "beleaguered" 90s to ensure that there was never a gap on the Mac, as it seemed MS and Intel was luring Avid and Adobe and other away.
We bought it and implemented and then Apple dropped it for FCPX. With Final Cut Suite, Apple did a roadshow selling an entire workflow built around FCP7, the companion apps and Final Cut Server.
